Mondai no Aru Restaurant

Notable Cast:

Maki Yoko, Nikaido Fumi (Woman, Henshin), Higashide Masahiro (xxxholic Live Action)

Genre:

Comedy

Network:

Fuji TV

Short Summary:

A group of women start their own restaurant after encountering difficulties working in the male-dominated restaurant industry.

Thoughts:

This drama is written by the popular scriptwriter SAKAMOTO YUJI who also wrote some of my favorite jdramas such as Soredemo Ikite Yuku, Woman, Saikou no Rikon, etc.  NEED I SAY MORE?  If Sakamoto Yuji isn’t enough for youuu look! at! the! cast!  I love Maki Yoko!  I enjoyed Higashide Masahiro in the xxxholic live action!  And Nikaido Fumi in Woman!   It’ll be great to see these three collaborating together.  I also quite enjoy the catchy preview.

Ouroboros ~ Kono Ai Koso, Seigi

Notable Cast:

Ikuta Toma, Oguri Shun, Ueno Juri

Genre:

Live action, detective

Network:

TBS

Short Summary:

This is based off of the manga Ouroboros.  It’s about two men who grew up together in an orphanage.  One grows up to be an ace detective while the other becomes a top gangster in the underworld.  How will these two reunite?

Thoughts:

Undoubtedly this is one of the most anticipated jdramas of the winter 2015 season.  I don’t expect much from the writing but OMGAWD THE CAST!   I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IKUTA TOMA & OGURI SHUN TOGETHER!   *W*  THIS IS LIKE A DREAM DRAMA!  These two already worked together before in Hanakimi so it’ll be interesting to see them collaborating once again.  I also like how the trailer for Ouroboros is giving me Tokyo DOGS (another Oguri Shun drama).

First Impressions:

Ghost Writer

Notable Cast:

Nakatani Miki (JIN 1 & 2), Mizukawa Asami (Last Friends, Sharehouse no Koibito)

Genre:

Suspense

Network:

Fuji TV

Short Summary:

Risa (Nakatani Miki) is an author who has hit a major writer’s block.  She resorts to using Yuki (Mizukawa Asami) as a ghost writer.  This arrangement strains both Risa and Yuki, as Risa feels like she is living a lie and Yuki desires to be a successful writer on her own.

Thoughts:

At first the cast and the synopsis didn’t catch my eye.  Then I saw that the scriptwriter is the same one who wrote my favorite Osozaki no Himawari along with the popular Boku no Ita Jikan.  Both of these were slice-of-life/romance jdramas so I’m wondering how the scriptwriter will do with a more suspenseful genre.  I’m hoping that Ghost Writer will still have a slice-of-life twist to it.  And guess what, the cast is pretty good as well!  Nakatani Miki was amazing in JIN 1 & 2, and I liked Mizukawa Asami in her previous roles as well.

Ryusei Wagon

Notable Cast:

Nishijima Hidetoshi, Kagawa Teruyuki

Genre:

Fantasy, sci-fi

Network:

TBS

Short Summary:

Nishijima Hidetoshi plays the role of Kazuo, a man whose life has gone totally downhill.  He lost his job, his wife and son.  He sees a mysterious van in which is driven by a man who died years ago.  Kazuo’s dead son is also in the van.  Kazuo gets in the van and visits his past.

Thoughts:

NISHIJIMA HIDETOSHI.  Unfortunately the promo poster doesn’t have his face on it.  😛  I’m looking forward for a change of pace in Nishijima Hidetoshi’s acting since I’m so used to his batman mode from MOZU.   Plus funny enough, he’s being joined by Kagawa Teruyuki once again…except this time Kagawa is playing the role of his father?!?! Huh?  BTW, for those who liked Roosevelt Game & Hanzawa Naoki, this is written by the same scriptwriter.

Oni-chan Gacha

Notable Cast:

Suzuki Rio (Woman, Ashita Mama ga Inai)

Genre:

?

Network:

NTV

Short Summary:

Suzuki Rio plays the role of Miko, a girl who has a poor family.  She finds a vending machine called Oni-Chan Gacha which grants her her wish of having a brother.  From then on all kinds of older brothers start to appear in her life.

Thoughts:

Ok my summary makes it sound kind of weird.  Basically it seems like the heroine will get to choose which brother she wants?  The story sounds whimsical and it’ll probably be really cute since it has Suzuki Rio in it.  I’m not so sure about the writing because this is from the same scriptwriter who wrote for Ashita, Mama Ga Inai.  >_>

Kageri Yuku Natsu

Notable Cast:

Watabe Atsuro

Genre:

Mystery

Network:

WOWOW

Short Summary:

Kaji Hidekazu (Watabe Atsuro) is a journalist who re-investigates an old kidnapping case from 20 years ago.  He discovers a shocking new development in the case.

Thoughts:

As usual WOWOW is coming out with some interesting mystery/suspense dramas. I always like to include a dark sounding jdrama on my anticipated jdrama list to balance out the jdrama selection, heheh.  I doubt this will get subbed and I probably won’t get to watch it.  :'(  But Watabe Atsuro + suspense = great!  He’s great in Gaiji Keisatsu, which is another dark jdrama so I’m interested to see what he could do with this role.

BTW I’m also curious about the other WOWOW mystery drama coming out in winter 2015–Shokuzai no Sonata with Sometani Shota!  Hopefully one of the WOWOW dramas will be a keeper in the winter season.

Which jdramas are you looking forward to the most and why?  Are there any other jdramas not on this list that you’re anticipating?

Note: I will update this post with promo posters/previews when they are released.  🙂

  • I love dogs and Soredemo Ikite Yuku so I’ll probably be checking out the first two dramas you listed. I’m happy to get a Hanakimi reunion but honestly, I’m still not too sure what to expect from the sound of the plot. Kageri Yuku Natsu’s plot sounds interesting, I’m a sucker for good mysteries.

  • Of your list, I’m probably only really looking forward to Ouroboros, mostly for Ueno Juri and a little of Oguri Shun. May also check out Ghost Writer, although that hairstyle really doesn’t suit Mizukawa Asami.

Also looking forward to Tamaki Hiroshi’s Zannen na Otto (not on your list), after the horror that is Kaisha.

      • Ueno will play Hibino Mizuki, who is the detective partner to Ikuta Toma’s character. Ikuta has been said to resemble Tamaki, so I’m gonna have a bit of disconnect here watching Ueno with Ikuta, haha.

I finished Kaisha. It was terribly average despite the best efforts of Tamaki and Ayase. Bloody waste of talent! The ending was epic logic fail and completely stupid.
