Anticipated jdramas: Fall 2013
*Update: Added preview for Miss Pilot.
The summer jdrama season is soon coming to a close, meaning I will have to say goodbye to the wonderful drama Woman. Aside from that, I have no other summer jdramas that I’ve been following. T_T Now looking at the list of upcoming fall jdramas, strangely enough I see TONS of big names (Kimutaku, Matsuda Shota, Takeuchi Yuko, Yonekura Ryoko, etc.) but I’m not very interested in most of them so far. O__O As always I’m really hoping for a breakthrough drama but so far, NADA.
Note: I will update the post later when trailers/posters come out. So far not many have. >_<
For the synopsis….
Notable cast: Horikita Maki (Nobuta wo Produce, Atashinchi no Danshi)
Short summary: A young woman who is jobless and out of options suddenly goes on a whim and decides to begin training as a pilot. She unexpectedly falls in love with flying and begins to devote herself to her training even though there are many difficulties on the way.
Thoughts: Surprisingly enough my #1 reason of wanting to watch this drama is not because of the cast–Horikita Maki as the heroine!!–but because of the synopsis. It’ll probably be your standard jdrama where the hardworking girl does her best to succeed in a male dominated environment, blah blah blah…but I can’t help it..I love dramas about flying. Hopefully this drama will not utterly fail like ROMES or TOKYO Airport. =_= Anyways of course, I also want to see Horikita Maki in another jdrama. I loved her in Nobuta wo Produce, and although she has starred in many jdramas since then, none of them have really caught my interest as much as Nobuta did. I doubt that Miss Pilot will be much of an acting challenge for Horikita but she is suitable for the lead.
*Update: Just watched the 30s preview for Miss Pilot and OMG Horikita Maki hasn’t aged at all. How does she do it!?!? Anyways the preview makes me more excited for the drama now!!

Notable cast: Kitagawa Keiko, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, Ito Hideaki
Short summary: The translated title means “Noble Bachelor” and focuses on the lives of three people who are single and content without love. The nickname “Noble Bachelor” (Kusanagi Tsuyoshi) goes to a man who is well-accomplished but happily single. The name “Divorce Warrior” (Ito Hideaki) is for the Noble Bachelor’s brother, who just got out of a failed marriage. And lastly, the “Marriage Refugee” (Kitagawa Keiko) is a young woman who has no desire for marriage but has also given up on her dream.
Thoughts: Ok, my abridged summary really sucks, you should read the official summary because it is much more fun and interesting than mine. This drama has the potential to be another fail rom-com where all the main characters don’t believe in love but end up falling in love, blah blah blah. And I am VERY wary of that. There have been way too many dramas like that lately. T__T”” But it also sounds like it could be a lot of fun if they do it right. I think it’s kinda cute how they have these nicknames for the main characters–Noble Bachelor, Divorce Warrior, and Marriage Refugee. I’m also looking forward to seeing Kitagawa Keiko, she can bring some life to this drama!
Notable cast: Ayano Go, Tamayama Tetsuji, Tanaka Rena, Omori Nao
Short summary: A bombing incident creates a mysterious “link” between several people…
Thoughts: Er, my summary basically says nothing about what the drama is really about. The official summary itself is vague and doesn’t really say exactly what the “link” is. But OMG look at that cast!! Ayano Go AND Tamayama Tetsuji in one drama?!? Also, of course I have to have at least one WOWOW drama on my anticipated jdramas list, right? Seems like this will be a darker drama. I think I have the highest expectations for Link simply based on the cast, the writer, and WOWOW’s reputation.
Notable cast: None that I recognize O____O
Short summary: Kumokiri Nizaemon is the leader of a band of thieves that only steals from the rich and doesn’t use violence. However their next operation is in jeopardy because the police force is closing in on them…
Thoughts: Well what I didn’t include in my summary is that this is a period drama and not your typical heist drama. So I’m expecting some ninjas, running across rooftops, you get the picture. 😛 Apparently this was also a movie version (not sure if it is just the same name, or if the movie has the same storyline) and is based on a manga. I’m hoping for a good period action drama!
For the cast…
Umi no Ue no Shinryoujo
(Clinic on the Sea)
Notable Cast: Matsuda Shota, Takei Emi
Short summary: Matsuda Shota plays a doctor who always helplessly falls in love with various women but ends up getting dumped by them. Takei Emi is a nurse and his colleague.
Thoughts: I will probably just check this out for Matsuda Shota. My first thought while reading the cast/synopsis was, WHAT THE HECK? HOW DOES TAKEI EMI GET TO STAR WITH MATSUDA SHOTA ALREADY? THIS LUCKY GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O_____O Anyways the synopsis of this drama sounds very similar to another jdrama..I can’t remember the title but I recall a drama where the main character always falls for women while he’s on the job but gets dumped by them in the end. So I don’t think the synopsis of this drama is all that unique considering it has been done before. But the thing is, is that it hasn’t been done with MATSUDA SHOTA before. 😉
Danda Rin ~ Roudou Kijun Kantokukan
Notable cast: Takeuchi Yuko, Matsuzaka Tori
Short summary: Based on the manga Dandarin O. Takeuchi Yuko is the heroine, Danda Rin, who is a labor standards inspector. She helps to protect workers from corrupt businesses.
Thoughts: I wasn’t very interested in the synopsis but I figure it is worth mentioning since Takeuchi Yuko and Matsuzaka Tori are both in this drama. I also think it will be great seeing Takeuchi Yuko in another BOSS-esque role (she was a total boss in Strawberry Night!) because she is awesome. The teaser just looks ok though, hopefully a longer preview will be released soon!
Ando Lloyd ~ A.I. Knows Love?
Notable cast: Kimutaku, Shibasaki Kou, Kiritani Kenta
Short summary: Kimutaku’s character #1 is a scientist. He dies, leaving behind his wife who is now in danger for unknown reasons. But fear not, because Kimutaku comes back as character #2–the main character, Lloyd. He is some kind of spirit whose mission is to protect character #1’s wife.
Thoughts: I’m sure all of the Kimutaku fans are rejoicing since he is in a new drama. =_= The synopsis is wacky so I just simplified it as much as I could. The moment I read about how Kimutaku’s character #2 will appear in the wife’s desk drawer, I totally zoned out and didn’t give it another thought. O___O However I reread it again and I think I would like to see how Lloyd’s character will turn out especially since he will be the wife’s BODYGUARD. 😉
Not very excited for this upcoming season since it seems like most of the dramas will be fluff. Let’s hope that this season will prove me wrong though! If you have any other anticipated fall jdramas let me know! I know that some people will probably be excited for the second seasons of DOCTOR X and Legal High but…I’m not a big fan of those dramas so I didn’t mention them. >_<
